Bell's Responsibility

Through joint initiatives, partnerships and investments in technology and people, Bell is forging stronger ties with our Aboriginal neighbours. They serve Aboriginal communities through Bell Canada, Bell Aliant, Northwestel, NorthernTel and Télébec, continually expanding service access.

Arts & Culture
The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto promotes, advances, and fosters emerging and established Canadian Aboriginal filmmakers and media artists in an international context. Closer To Home is a new Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) series which takes us onto reserves across Canada to experience home from a First Nations point of view. Hosted by accomplished First Nations actor and homebuilder Wayne Baker, each half hour program delivers practical 'how to' advice on a range of housing issues catering to Aboriginal people living on reserves.
As part of Bell's 2010 Olympic commitment, Bell supports the development of the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler, British Columbia. The Centre will be the first of its kind in Canada and will showcase the rich heritage and culture of the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations.
Since its inception, the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival has become the most exciting and highly anticipated music exhibition in Central Ontario. In 2006 the festival included the fourth annual Bell Canada First Peoples' Cultural Heritage Days. Taking place at Heritage Park, the event recognized and celebrated the contribution of Aboriginal artists and their influence on Jazz and Blues Arts. Also included over the three days were Aboriginal cultural showcases, interactive displays and fine arts exhibits.
Aboriginal Voices Radio recognizes and celebrates the Aboriginal community and culture in Canada. Bell's sponsorship enabled the broadcast of music and interviews highlighting the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (CAMA) nominees, powwow dancers and drummers, Aboriginal chefs from the on site restaurant, and celebrity performers and participants.

Sports And Recreation
Held annually for 35 years, the Little NHL (Native Hockey League) hockey tournament brings together Anishinabe hockey players from all over Ontario to participate in a five-day tournament in March. Bell sponsored the event held in Sudbury in 2006, with over 120 teams and nearly 5,000 participants contributing to its success.
The Recreation Project in Timmins, which provides youth in the James Bay coastal communities with new recreational equipment and arts & craft supplies. These communities have experienced high rates of unemployment and poverty.

Bell Mobility Introduces Mobile Contacts Backup Service

Canadian mobile operator Bell Mobility has introduced a mobile contacts backup and restore service powered by FusionOne. FusionOne’s MightyBackup service comes pre-loaded on Bell Mobility’s newest mobile phones - such as the LG Musiq and Samsung r610 - and safeguards users’ mobile phone address books and restores the information if the phone is lost, stolen, damaged, or upgraded.
We are very pleased to introduce FusionOne’s comprehensive address book backup and restore services to Canada," said Nauby Jacob, director, product development, Bell Mobility. "They provide clients the peace of mind of knowing that the content of their mobile address book is protected and retrievable whenever they need it."Bell Mobility is offering the MightyBackup service to its clients under the name of Backup Manager for a price of CDN $3.00 per month. Bell Mobility’s Backup Manager provides address book protection against loss or damage to a mobile phone and easy migration of contacts when users want to upgrade their phones. In addition, with the pre-installation of Backup Manager onto the handset, more subscribers can access the service and ensure protection for their mobile phone address books. The deployment of the backup service by Bell Mobility marks a number of "firsts" for MightyBackup, such as the first Canadian deployment of the service, the first commercial deployment of MightyBackup on the Java platform, the first deployment of MightyBackup pre-installed on a handset, the first fully integrated billing system, and the first multi-language support deployment (English and French)."We are excited to add Bell, with its base of over six million mobile clients, to our growing list of global customers," said Rick Onyon, founder of FusionOne. "The increased value of backup services is evident in the continued growth and momentum we are experiencing as a company. Now, with the availability of MightyBackup on the Java platform, as well as the ability to pre-install the service directly onto the handset, we believe that Bell Mobility’s Backup Manager will be a very popular service."

Give the gift that benefits you both

Much as I love cellphones, I don’t think I’ve ever thought of them as suitable Valentine’s gifts. Nonetheless, all of the carriers seem to be making romantic overtures to potential customers in the run-up to the 14th, and Bell Mobility is no different. Their loving line-up includes two Motorola’s - the KRZR K1m and the ROKR Z6m - the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, white HTC Touch and double-flipping Samsung u740.
With prices starting from $0 (assuming you take out a new contract, of course), make sure your loved-one doesn’t see the receipt because spending nothing on a gift is usually looked at as less than romantic. What’s more pleasant is the current Bell promotion which gets you up to three months of unlimited local talk-time when you activate the handset.

I have been waiting for this

I think anyone could benefit from the use of this amazing new product.

Bell Cares

Bell extends its support in the fight against online child pornography with new funding for Cybertip.ca

$750,000 pledge helps launch the Canadian Centre for Child Protection

OTTAWA, Jan. 29 2008 --
Bell today announced its renewed commitment to Cybertip.ca as the Founding Partner of the newly created Canadian Centre for Child Protection (CCCP), launched in Ottawa today by Cybertip.ca.
With funding of $750,000 over three years, Bell's contribution will support the essential services provided by Cybertip.ca, increase public awareness and prevention through national campaigns, help continue innovative initiatives such as Cleanfeed Canada and produce the Cybertip.ca Child
Protection Series. In addition, Bell will be recognized as the Founding Partner of the newly created Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
The CCCP is a charitable organization dedicated to the safety of all children. As Canada's leader in child safety and protection programs, education and advocacy, the centre advises and raises awareness on best practices related to prevention strategies to reduce online sexual exploitation of children and improve their safety. The centre delivers two national programs, Cybertip.ca and Kids in the Know.
"Bell's commitment to fighting online child pornography dates back to 2002 when we helped launch Cybertip.ca," said Mirko Bibic, Chief - Regulatory Affairs, Bell Canada. "Since then Bell has continued and extended its support with funding totalling more than $1.5 million, including today's announcement to fund the Canadian Centre for Child Protection."
In the last five years, Cybertip.ca has averaged more than 800 reports of online sexual exploitation of children per month. These reports have resulted in 30 arrests, 2,800 websites being shut down, and at least five children being rescued.
"We are very grateful to Bell Canada for their dedication and commitment to the protection of children. Their generous contribution and support will enable the Canadian Centre for Child Protection to carry out its critical work," said Ms. McDonald, Executive Director of the Centre.
As Canada's leading ISP, Bell supports several initiatives promoting the responsible use of the Internet, including the Bell Cyber Abuse Research Project at the University of Toronto, Be Web Aware, the Media Awareness Network and Kids Help Phone.
